Our Story

If you’re curious about our story, then you’re in the right spot!

Children’s comforters have been around since the ages. They were traditionally crafted using an old blanket, or whatever fabric was at hand. We recognised just how much kids love & adore their security blankets, although there were limited options in the market for 100% organic comforters.

There was quite a few comforters around at the time, they had - Organic Fabrics, Eco-Friendly products, some with Organic Filling and Water-based Dyes, but none that contained Organic Approved or Satisfied Inks, clearing them of any harmful toxins, which was extremely important to us.

So we combined the two greatest loves for little people, comforters and superheroes, with a touch of our love for organic and monochrome, and bam snugÏpops emerged! When we launched we were the first comforter of our kind to consist of all three products used in our manufacturing.

We conduct our business to meet the needs of the present without compromising on the ability of the future, and the future of our little people. Therefore, we created snugÏpops in an environmentally and ethically aware manner. All of our snugÏpops are made here in Australia according to Australian Work Standards. We have personal relationships with all our workers and you can be assured that they maintain ethical production practices every step of the way.  You can feel good purchasing our products, knowing that you are supporting healthy farmers, ethically-treated workers, and a happy planet!

Could they get any better? Well yes actually! sugÏpops are comforters at their absolute best. Made up of no nasties, 90% Australian Made, using GOTS Certified products, which encompasses FAIR TRADE.

Our Fabric - The whole growing & manufacturing process of our fabric is done here in Australia, being completed from field to finished yarn. We use Certified Organic Australian Grown Cotton that is purchased from an Australian Organic Cotton Farmer.  The fabric is than spun from the cotton to make yarn in an Australian Factory. The factory provides workers with a safe, clean and enjoyable working environment, while paying them a fair wage in sweatshop free conditions. The factory carries the Certification Compliance through the ACO (Australian Certified Organic), our Organic Fabrics are also proud to be accredited with the ACO and GOTS Certified labelling and accreditation procedures. When we lack rain water and our supplier cant source our cotton from the Australian Farmer, they get Certified Organic Cotton Yarn from India & Turkey. When doing so our supplier works through Fair Trade agreements that protect the workers who grow the raw cotton, ensuring safety and fair work practices that help their families and communities. They avoid organisations that rely on child labour, forced labour, unfair wages, or poor work conditions.

Our Filling - Our Australian supplier imports our Organic Cotton Filling from a Certified mill in Turkey. The cotton is NOT fumigated, has NO polyesters, NO additives, NO waste materials, DOES NOT contain fire retardants and DOES NOT contain formaldehyde or any other harmful chemicals. The firm has three mills who all have GOTS Organic Certification, and are in the area where the best quality crops are produced. They have very rich soil and natural underground water table, which is a perfect combination to grow organically. Certified Organic Cotton must be grown 'Fair Trade' and with only water that falls from the sky, yes pure fresh rainwater! Our filling is packed in cellophane (a product made from tree cellulose), NOT plastic or plastic that looks like cellophane. Organic cotton and cellophane are natural materials, they are bio-degradable, and when used or worn out, can go into your compost.

Our Screen Printing Ink - Our snugÏpops are printed here in Australia. The inks we use are an 100% solvent free range that is environmentally friendly. Our screen printing inks do not contain ozone-depleting chemicals, aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile solvents. They don’t contain lead, heavy metals or any toxic chemicals whatsoever. Our textile inks passed the Oekotex Class 1 standard (with 60% to spare!) and is safe to use on your precious bubs. This range of ink for screen printing has also been granted approval by the Soil Association in the UK, having successfully met the requirements of the Global Organic Textiles Standards (GOTS) for non-organic chemical inputs for use in organic textile processing. Historically, most commercial screen printers use plastisol inks, which are easy to use and last well. However, plastisol inks contain PVC and phthalates that are harmful to the environment and have been linked to numerous medical disorders.

Digital PrintingThe style of Ink we use is an eco-friendly water based "Nano Pigment." Just like in screen printing but as a nano particle so it can be expelled through the ink jet print heads. Solvent Free, metal free and free from harmful chemicals. It requires no water in print production process, for a lighter environmental foot print.

Our Packaging - Our brown bags are made of recycled paper and have a corn based, 100% natural bio film that is a renewable resource, and most importantly, they are compostable. They have been specifically designed to give an environmentally friendly packaging solution. We than stamp them with ink, avoiding stickers, to lower the impact on the environment.

Let a superhero save your day!

The meanings:-

'Fair Trade' - Certified organic encompasses ‘FAIR TRADE’. When organic certification originated for cotton processing – from suitable seeds, to growing then harvesting/picking, removing the seeds, packing the raw cotton, transport to mills, processing the cotton into yarn, into fabrics and final conversion into consumer products – it also encompassed fair trade policies – a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work.

'GOTS' - stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It is recognised as the leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres worldwide. It defines the highest level environmental and social standards. The aim of the standard is to define requirements to ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labeling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer. A functional waste water treatment plant is mandatory for any wet-processing unit involved and all processors must comply with social minimum criteria. Our snugÏpops are made from cotton fillings and fabrics that are Certified Organic *GOTS and certified.  Products that are imported are made from “Certified Organic Cotton Yarn” and processed to Organic Standard.

‘Certified’ - means that an independent company makes regular inspections from farmer to production, and at each stage the company performing the certification inspection issue certificates which are the assurance of the ‘certification’. This gives you the confidence that you are purchasing products which do not contain harmful chemicals and that the raw cotton, plus any further processing is without harmful chemicals. The raw material and processing is without toxic chemicals.
